Labiaplasty

To reduce the size or reshape the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and, in some cases, the labia majora (outer vaginal lips).

Overview

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces the size or reshapes the labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and, in some cases, the labia majora (outer vaginal lips). Patients choose labiaplasty for a variety of personal reasons, including physical discomfort, concerns about appearance, or changes following childbirth, aging, or weight loss.

Dr. Emilie Robertson offers cosmetic labiaplasty in Edmonton using techniques tailored to each patient's anatomy and goals. During your consultation, she will discuss your concerns, examine the area, and recommend the surgical approach that will provide the best functional and aesthetic outcome.

Dr Robertson offers a unique perspective as a female surgeon who has an extensive background in perineal reconstruction.

Benefits

Labiaplasty may help:

  • Reduce discomfort caused by enlarged labia during exercise, cycling, or other physical activities

  • Improve comfort when wearing fitted clothing or swimwear

  • Reduce irritation during sexual activity

  • Create a more balanced, tucked-in appearance of the labia

  • Improve confidence and body image

Every individual's anatomy is unique, and the decision to pursue labiaplasty is highly personal.

Surgical Techniques

Depending on your anatomy and desired outcome, Dr. Robertson may recommend one of the following techniques:

Trim Labiaplasty
The trim technique removes excess tissue along the edge of the labia minora to reduce size and improve symmetry. This is one of the most commonly performed labiaplasty techniques and is appropriate for many patients.

Composite Reduction Labiaplasty
For patients requiring more extensive reshaping, a composite reduction addresses both the labia minora, clitoral hood, and surrounding tissues to achieve a balanced, harmonious result.

Wedge Labiaplasty

The wedge technique removes a V-shaped section of tissue from the labia minora while preserving the natural edge of the labia. This approach often provides a natural appearance with minimal alteration to the natural contour.

Recovery

Recovery from labiaplasty typically takes approximately six weeks before patients can return to unrestricted activities.

Most patients can expect:

  • Mild swelling and discomfort during the first few days

  • Gradual improvement over several weeks

  • Return to work within several days to one week, depending on their occupation

  • Avoidance of strenuous exercise and sexual activity for approximately six weeks

Dr. Robertson will provide detailed post-operative instructions and monitor your healing throughout your recovery.
